The
Palace Museum- the best-preserved palace
The
Palace Museum, also known as the Purple Forbidden City, was the palace
of the Ming(1368-1644) and Qing(1644-1911) Dynasties. It is the largest
and best-preserved ancient building group in China. Constructed in the
years from 1406 to 1420 and rebuilt many times later, the imperial Palace
covers an area of 720,000 square meters, with more than 9,000 buildings
within it. The Palace Museum is the largest and most complete group of
palace building existing in China today. Laid out in a strict symmetry,
the buildings embody the fine tradition and unique style of ancient Chinese
architectural art.
